I've had birds my whole life, grew up with them in FL, made trips with my dad all over the country to find birds, breed, and raise them. I have bred a few species myself and have raised almost everything with the exception of Macaws. I've had my Grey and Yellow Nape for almost 20 years now. I've raised hundreds of Green Cheeks, Sun Conures, Nanday Conures, Painted Conures, Cherry Headed Conures, Indian Ringnecks, Caiques, Eclectus, Amazons, Greys, and Cockatoos. I consider myself very lucky and grateful to be doing this!

There's a few things I'd look for in a breeder on top of the usual things such as clean cages, healthy looking, tame and active birds. Having their own pet birds is a big plus, it's how you know they actually like birds and enjoy raising them. Feeding a good diet, not clipping wings, and developing a close bond that transfers over are the big key items I'd look for. They should be able to explain how they raise birds to be as healthy as possible, and possibly back it up with some proof.
